Why is the purchase of mobile phones getting more popular?
I'm doing a report on mobile phones, and I was hoping that someone could help me try to find out why people are buying more mobile phones now than before. Thanks. :)

They're getting cheaper, price plans are cheap and competitive so you can always find something that suits you.
Then there is the 'fashion' side of it - it's the accessory EVERYONE 'must have'.
There is then the convenience - you can contact people from anywhere at anytime, regardless. And some have internet connection for on the spot research...etc.
And last but not least there is the attraction, for kids mainly, that phones are not only ways to be able to contact people and BE contacted, but there is the games, the internet, the music storage, the videos and the photos... a mobile phone is the best 'all-in-one' system a person can have AND they're fashionable.
Personally, I have a phone so I can keep in touch with friends and family while I'm at university.
Convience is the first thing that comes to mind. Cell phone companies know that people like the convience of staying in touch and even getting information from the internet whenever they want. Cell phones keep things easy for people in many ways and they like it.
They are more affordable than they have been in the past, both for the equipment (the phone itself) and for the service (plan).
Mobile phones fit in with popular culture-we are, in general, rushed, we want things now and we want to be connected.
Mobile phones can actually be quite handy-most now come with still and/or video cameras, voice recorders, games to keep us entertained. We can not only call but text, and many phones now have internet access where you can check email and/or send and receive IMs.
Think of having to find a pay phone and a quarter (or more, with today's economy) everytime you wanted/needed to make a call while you are out. That is one point of convenience.
When I got in an auto accident, I was able to call my husband immediately, so that he could come pick us up. That is another form of convenience.
