Is there any free software to take screenshots of selected areas of the desktop or screen?
Make sure its free and could it be a little like the theme of google chrome, or something new kind of, understand? anyway, theme doesnt make much of a difference. :D
Ps. I dont want to crop it and all. I just want to select the area. not take the pic. and then crop. thats downright time wasing.

you can just take a regular screenshot and crop it to the area you want with an image editing program like Paint.
Imagemagicks package has import for *nix try for its alternate in windows
IrfanView has a nice screen capture feature that allows you to crop the image.

the best method is to take a screenshot, paste the image in ms paint, then cut ot edit the image and save it. this is the best and the easiest way.
